Events Weekend
The Canalway Trail Roll and the Bank of Utica Canal Cities Classic are companion sports‑tourism events for the Rome-Utica area. Cyclists will ride along the Erie Canalway Trail from Bellamy Harbor Park in Rome to Lock 20 in Marcy (or may optionally turn around in Oriskany for a shorter ride). Meanwhile, paddlers will be racing from Rome to Utica on the Erie Canal and Mohawk River. Cyclists can enjoy a pit-stop in Oriskany, where they might have the opportunity to cheer on some paddlers passing through! Cyclists will then turn around and head back to Bellamy Harbor, but are encouraged to come down to Utica after their ride to attend the post-race party -- the Erie Canal History & Heritage Festival -- in Utica's beautiful Harbor Point. Peddlers, paddlers, and community members are all encouraged to come celebrate our canal communities at the festival!
Canalway Trail Roll
Join us for the inaugural Canalway Trail Roll -- a community‑focused ride celebrating cycling, our local trails, and our canal corridor. The Roll can be done as a 14-mile or 20-mile route. All ages are welcome to participate in the Roll. Children ages 12 and under are free but must register alongside a parent or legal guardian; bike trailers for younger participants are welcome. Registration fees apply for participants age 13 and up. Sign up by September 9th to receive an event t‑shirt! The route is mostly off‑road on the Erie Canalway Trail / Empire State Trail, with a small portion of on‑road riding. The Roll is an at‑your‑own‑pace ride with volunteer leaders and sweepers to assist riders. Helmets are required for all riders. The Roll is scheduled for Saturday, September 19th. Packet pick‑up will be held Friday at Copper City Brewing and on Saturday morning at Bellamy Harbor Park west. Riders can stop in Oriskany for a welcome and water station, and to watch the Canal Cities Classic paddlers. The event is rain or shine; in extreme weather we will cancel.

Bank of Utica Canal Cities Classic
Join us for the first annual Bank of Utica Canal Cities Classic, an 18-mile point-to-point flatwater paddle from Rome to Utica that traverses the historic Erie Canal and the Mohawk River. The race begins at Bellamy Harbor Park in Rome, NY and ends at Utica's historic Harbor Point. There is one portage at the Erie Canal Trail before the River St. bridge in Whitestown, a 350-yard carry that brings paddlers from the Erie Canal to the Mohawk River.
